Last updated: January 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and The Island Today ("we", "our", "us") governing your access to and use of the website theislandtoday.com and any related services (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account, subscribing to our newsletter, or otherwise using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Who We Are
The Island Today is a Staten Island-focused local media and newsletter platform. We publish stories, events, business listings, job postings, and community updates covering the North Shore, Mid-Island, and South Shore.
3. Eligibility & Accounts
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. When you sign up you agree to provide accurate information, keep your credentials secure, and be responsible for all activity that happens under your account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe are being used to harm the Service or other users.
4. Newsletter & Communications
When you create an account, you are automatically subscribed to The Island Today newsletter and community updates so you don't miss the latest Staten Island news. You can unsubscribe at any time from your account settings or by using the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
- Post content that is defamatory, harassing, hateful, or infringes anyone's rights.
- Impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with any business or entity.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems.
- Scrape, harvest, or bulk-download content except as permitted by these Terms.
- Interfere with the operation of the Service, including via bots, scripts, or DDoS attempts.
6. User-Submitted Content
You retain ownership of anything you submit to the Service — including business listings, job posts, event submissions, comments, and profile information ("User Content"). By submitting User Content, you grant The Island Today a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt, publish, and display it in connection with operating and promoting the Service.
You represent that you have the rights to submit the User Content and that it does not violate any law or third-party right. We may remove or refuse to publish any User Content at our discretion.
7. Editorial Content & Accuracy
We work to publish accurate, timely local coverage, but the Service is provided on an "as is" basis. We do not guarantee that stories, event details, job listings, or business information are complete, accurate, or currently available. Always verify critical details directly with the organizer, employer, or business.
8. Intellectual Property
All original content, branding, logos, and design elements on The Island Today are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by U.S. and international copyright and trademark law. You may share links to our pages, but you may not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works without written permission.
9. Third-Party Links
The Service links to third-party websites, employers, event pages, and businesses. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, policies, or practices. Visiting a third-party site from The Island Today is at your own risk.
10. Disclaimers

11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE ISLAND TODAY AND ITS AFFILIATES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
